In 2010 we will organize the second edition of the UDC. The (Un)limited Design Contest 2010 will be an international event! This year's kick-off will be in Berlin, during the DMY International Design Festival 2010, that will be held from 9 - 13 June. Again, everyone can participate with a new design or make a derivative design using one of the entries for the 2009 contest. Go and remix them! Print a food design on your t-shirt or incorporate a design in your food.
Launch at DMY
This year's competition will start 9 June 2010 and will end 9 September 2010. The official launch will be at DMY in Berlin at the ʻMaker Labʼ at Flughafen Tempelhof. We will bring a mobile Fablab with which visitors can make designs for the contest during the festival. The existing products will be exhibited and will function as an inspiration point for visitors to either buy or make their own product version on the spot, putting open design into practice. Designers can also use the exhibited pieces as a starting point for a derivative design.
Contest period
The contest period will run from 9 June until 9 September, in which period Fablabs will be open to make your designs. In this period designs can be entered to join the contest. Participants can either submit a new design or make a derivative of an existing design submitted by others by using the machines in the Fablab or any other prototyping facility. For this reason, apart from the designs themselves, the blueprints and instructions relating to the submissions are also published on the competition website under a Creative Commons license. In the 2009 edition of the contest more than 80 designs were submitted, with a winner chosen in each category - Form, Food and Fashion. These designs can be used in the 2010 edition of the contest to make derivatives in the new category Fusion!
Closing events at PICNIC
Join the thousands of creatives gathering at PICNIC. One of the main themes for international PICNIC '10 festival in Amsterdam is open design. Therefore the (Un)limited Design Contest will be one of the main activities, There is a main speaker session, a hands-on lab and an award ceremony. PICNIC '10 will be held from 22-24 September.
The winners of the (Un)limited Design Contest will be revealed at a festive awards ceremony during the PICNIC festival. The best design in each category will receive a prize.
